On Wednesday, Anthropic began merging Claude Cowork and Claude chat into one Claude: “You don’t have to choose where a task goes.” Claude decides what the task needs, and cloud tasks keep running even if you close your laptop. (You can check progress from your phone.) Work that uses local files or desktop apps still needs Claude Desktop open. The merge is rolling out to Pro and Max plans over the coming weeks, with Team and Free to follow. Enterprise admins will get at least 30 days’ notice before anything changes.
Anthropic also launched Claude Docs and Claude Slides, and Claude Design now works inside conversations. All three are in beta on paid plans, with enterprise admins choosing when to enable them. Ask for a document and you write it together. Ask for a presentation and Claude drafts the slides, which you can edit directly, present straight from Claude, or download as PowerPoint or PDF. Each document, deck, or design has a shareable link. Recurring tasks can be scheduled.
AI is eating software. Claude’s context window now contains a word processor, a presentation tool, and a design studio. OpenAI pushed in the same direction with ChatGPT Work this summer, and Microsoft and Google are threading generation into Office and Workspace from the other direction. Right now, Claude still offers PowerPoint and Word exports, but the more work that starts and finishes inside Claude, the less and less the export button is going to matter.
According to the documentation, Claude by default asks before taking an action. You can switch to automatic approval, with automated safety checks reviewing its actions. This is another step toward ambient work, which is great, but autonomous workflows and agents need to be closely monitored, evaluated, and managed.
Every company needs a Claw strategy. Do you have one?
