President Obama is set to make an official announcement on Friday that will set new standards for automotive fuel efficiency. All cars made between the years of 2017 and 2025 will be required to drive 54.5 miles-per-gallon. Current regulations require automakers to accomplish 35.5 miles-per-gallon by 2016. In other news, a group of 29 American universities are working towards building infrastructure that could achieve Internet speeds several hundred times faster than currently available. By making one-gigabit connections abundant, the coalition believes it will foster new ideas and businesses. Funded will be provided by the private sector. And finally, a new report by Nielsen found that about 50% of those using Netflix access it through a videogame console. Conversely, Hulu Plus subscribers do 89% of their watching on the computer, mainly due to a lack of supported hardware. Netflix has found its way onto almost anything with an Internet connection.
