SAMSUNG chairman Lee Kun-hee will step down after being indicted for tax evasion. Lee is the son of Samsung’s founder and has been running the company for the last twenty years. It is hard to determine exactly how Lee’s resignation will affect Samsung, as his role in day to day operations has always been ambiguous.
In 2009, DISNEY will launch DISNEYNATURE. The production company will produce two nature films a year, with their first film, “Earth,” scheduled for release a year from today. With the worldwide success of Warner’s “March of the Penguins” and the BBC documentary “Planet Earth,” Disney hopes its foray into nature films will help expand their overseas market.
NBC NEWS and MSNBC will provide sole coverage for MYSPACE’s Decision ’08, which goes live today. Decision ’08 is an online destination for users to engage in election news, analysis and discussion. NBC & MYSPACE’s election coverage comes months after CNN and YOUTUBE teamed up to broadcast both Republican and Democratic debates.
NETFLIX quarterly revenue rose 36%, despite the increasing costs of its Internet streaming services. However, the company recently partnered with LG and three other manufacturers in an attempt to monetize its online content through television. A box for delivering Netflix’s streaming service to TV is expected to hit the market later this year.
SONY is reportedly negotiating with studios to distribute content for the Playstation 3. A month ago SONY announced that the latest upgrade to the PS3 will enable users to watch video from the web. The long promised service is a reaction to MICROSOFT’s Xbox live offering, which provides users access to television shows and movies via the Xbox 360.
