American Idol producers — for the first time in the show’s 12-season run — will let the public determine one episode’s theme this season, Idol’s wireless sponsor AT&T exclusively told Mashable before Wednesday night’s show. After host Ryan Seacrest makes the announcement during the April 3 performance show, people will be able to submit their suggestions on Twitter using hashtag #ATTIdolTheme. Past themes include genres, songs by an artist (or band) or something more generic. “We’re really excited to hear from the fans and give them an opportunity to affect the show in a way they’ve never been able to before,” David Christopher, CMO of AT&T Mobility, told us. Producers and AT&T will review the submissions and narrow them down to five favorites, which Seacrest will reveal on April 11.
