The FCC plans to reallocate funds for subsidizing phone service for the poor to provide better broadband coverage as well. The Lifeline Assistance and Link-Up America programs currently fund monthly telephone service and installation for the poor. While the costs are higher, the Internet is being considered a necessary public utility. In other news, AT&T will support turning your iPhone 4 into a mobile hotspot with the new iOS 4.3. With the $45 a month DataPro plan you can have up to 5 devices use the phone’s Internet wirelessly. AT&T can bundle the service to your current bill and is even offering post-month payment for data. And finally, love BlackBerry messenger but not the phone? Well, you’re in luck because RIM plans on releasing the service as an app for Android and iOS. RIM will release a stripped down version for free, with functions familiar to BlackBerry customers at a cost.
