Blockbuster wants you to stream full-length feature films on your phone. The company released a mobile app yesterday that gives users access to Blockbuster’s library of over 10,000 films, with new releases priced at $3.99, while older films will cost $1.99. Unfortunately, the app is currently only available for Windows Mobile phones on T-Mobile, though Blockbuster plans to release its 24-hour streaming rental service shortly on Android-based phones.
As content goes mobile, more providers are getting in the game. HBO is reportedly in talks to make its content available on a TV Everywhere platform. While HBO has worked with Verizon and Comcast to make its programming available online, it hopes to expand its availability over the coming months with new partnerships. While details are scant, the push could see shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm hitting mobile devices later this year.
Nintendo Wii users are finally getting Netflix Watch Instantly. Netflix recently sent out a notice that the company had shipped the requisite streaming discs needed to access its Watch Instantly archive on the Wii. While Xbox 360 and PS3 have had access for months, bringing Netflix Watch Instantly to the Wii puts the service into homes of casual gamers, and greatly expands its appeal.
