Hulu claims that Nielsen miscalculated its streams for April. Nielsen reported that Hulu served 373 million streams. However, citing analytics from comScore, Hulu claims the number of streams served during the month of April was actually 397 million.
News Corp announced that former senior executive Chase Carey will replace Peter Chernin as President and COO of the media conglomerate. Carey, who recently served as the CEO of DirecTV, will oversee News Corp’s global operations and will serve as Rupert Murdoch’s #2. Carey will begin his new position on July 1st.
Yahoo filed a lawsuit against the NFL over licensing fees for fantasy football. The web-network notes that it should not have to pay fees to the NFL for player names, info and stats, which it believes the NFL cannot copyright. While Yahoo and other official fantasy leagues currently pay the NFL millions for stats, as well as to be an authorized “official league”, Major League Baseball lost a similar case with fantasy league CDMsports.com a few years ago, which set precedent that may work in Yahoo’s favor.
Apple is reportedly set to begin building a datacenter in North Carolina. The move, which is expected to cost the company $1 billion, comes after Apple reported nearly $29 billion in cash on its last financial sheet. Plans for a new datacenter come as Apple delves deeper into internet services, like cloud computing and push notification.
The Justice Department is launching a probe into the hiring tactics of technology firms. Companies listed in the investigation into recruiting practices include Google, Apple and Yahoo. The probe is expected to divulge whether or not companies have made alliances between each other not to hire top talent away from each other.
