SAG has officially rejected the AMPTP’s contract offer from June 30th. In a letter to Guild members, national executive director Doug Allen said the offer “snuffs out residuals” for new media projects. SAG believes that recent investments in VOD and online streaming indicate that the media conglomerates believe in new media but don’t want to share in the future revenue stream. No new meetings have been set.

TIVO has officially added access to YouTube from its DVRs. The rollout brings the service to TiVo users with Series 3 or HD TiVo boxes. In related news, YouTube announced a deal with Lions Gate to offer clips from its vast library of movies. The studio will now get a cut of the revenue generated from the millions of views its content receives on the popular video-sharing site.

18 CABLE OPERATORS have agreed to join the fight against online access to child pornography. The operators, which provide Internet service to 87% of US homes, have signed agreements with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A list of specific sites will be blocked and offending activity will be reported directly to the NCMEC’s tip line. The massive, industry-wide agreement includes Comcast, Cox, Charter, Cablevision, Bright House Neworks and more.

MICROSOFT announced that its online operations continue to bleed money, losing $488 million in the company’s Fourth Quarter. While the rest of the business helped push revenue above $15 billion, the online portion of Microsoft is a glaring weakness and a sign that the company still hasn’t figured out its role online. Of course, if they can’t build it, maybe they can buy it. Is it possible Yahoo actually has the upper hand?

VERIZON has been cleared to provide TV service in New York City. The company will roll out FiOS TV by the end of the year for buildings that already have fiber installed for phone and Internet access. For the rest of the city, Verizon will begin installing new fiber optic connections and signing agreements with building owners. The company has six years to complete its fiber build out.
