Online Meeting
The speed of information is directly equated to economic success. If you learn something before your competitor does and you have the tools to make the knowledge actionable, you are almost always going to profit from it. So, while it’s true that “knowledge is power,” the true power comes from the speed with which you can create information asymmetry in a transactional environment. This is the goal of our new online innovation briefings. Continue Reading →

Big Tech Bans Trump

Trump Twitter Account
The gravity of what happened in Washington this past week cannot be overstated. There can be no excuses made for the people who attacked the Capitol Building. There is no justification for what they did. To a person, they should be identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. In the aftermath, Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. Google and Apple removed Parler (an app that allows anyone to write anything) from their respective app stores. Not surprisingly, Trump supporters are trying to gaslight the Constitution. Continue Reading →

Looking Forward

Crystal Ball
As 2020 begins its journey from memory into history, I can’t help but wonder how our experiences in this gruesome year will shape the future. We may have experienced 10 years of social innovation in the past 10 months, but how will that accelerated innovation change the way we spend our days? What will come back? What is gone forever? What can 2020 teach us about the future? Continue Reading →
Fire TV
I wasn't sure about it until lunchtime today, but now I'm sure. TV is dead to me. It's not only merely dead; it's really most sincerely dead. Muerto. Over. Stick a fork in it … it's done! I sat down for lunch and turned on the TV. I wanted to watch some news. You can probably guess what happened. Continue Reading →
Digital Audience
The Consumer Electronics Show has evolved so far beyond its consumer electronics roots that it is now just called CES. Over the years, the show has grown into the world’s most important annual technology trade event, featuring close to 4,000 exhibitors and attracting over 170,000 attendees. But times have changed. Due to the pandemic, CES 2021 will be “all-digital.” Which raises the question, does CES still matter? Continue Reading →
Blue Disco Ball
A vice president at a very large company just sent me a purchase order for a "blue disco ball." That's my metaphoric name for a specific kind of middle management error that most vendors, suppliers and even solutions providers love most. What is a "blue disco ball?" It's every senior executive's worst nightmare and every vendor's holiday bonus all rolled into a budget-busting good time. Continue Reading →

They Already Have Your Data

TikTok WeChat
On August 6, 2020, the president of the United States signed two virtually identical executive orders banning the use of both TikTok and WeChat. TikTok will survive due to a partnership deal with Oracle that, at this writing, the president has approved. But, unless a federal judge issues a stay, by the time you read this WeChat will be officially banned. Continue Reading →
Online Networking Salon
I miss meeting new people. I miss bumping into people I know. So, necessity being the mother of invention, my team has been experimenting with different ways to gather our community – and we have a plan. Introducing the Shelly Palmer Online Networking Salons. They are free, category-specific, weekly, 20-minute, super-curated, small, Zoom meetings where you will introduce yourself, meet some new people, bump into old friends, learn something, hang out for a bit, and then get back to work. Here’s how we tested the theory and why we know it works. Continue Reading →
