Opera Will Let You Test Over 150 AI Models

I know you’re familiar with ChatGPT, and you probably know that it is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo (a large language model or “LLM”), but how many other LLMs can you name? I’ll wait…

Time’s up. My guess is five or six, unless you’re an engineer, in which case I expect you to effortlessly rattle off 10 or 20. The thing is… there are hundreds more.

Whether or not you have the technical skills or desire to read the next paragraph, you need to know that OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, and Amazon (aka “big tech”) is not the only place that AI innovation is happening. Big compute clouds and massive technical infrastructures are not required for every AI application. There’s a world full of independent developers who are doing groundbreaking work with local AI models. Most AI enthusiasts and evangelists do not talk about this enough, so… geeks, read on.

Opera has announced an exciting new feature that allows users to download and test LLMs directly on their desktop computers. This capability is initially being rolled out to Opera One users who receive developer stream updates.

With this feature, developers can choose from an extensive selection of over 150 models spanning more than 50 families, including well-known options like Meta’s Llama, Google’s Gemma, and Vicuna. Opera leverages the open-source Ollama framework to enable the local execution of these LLM models within the browser environment.

By running the LLMs locally, users can harness the power of AI without the need to send their data to remote servers, ensuring that their information remains securely on their own devices. This feature is part of Opera’s “AI Feature Drops” program, which provides early access to emerging AI capabilities.

If you made it this far, you should consider joining us for our first AI for Brand Marketers Summit powered by Brand Innovators & Shelly Palmer, hosted by Paramount Global (June 4-6 in NYC).
