A Very Practical Use of AI

If you repurpose video content – or have wanted to – you know that older, low resolution video content does not repurpose well. This is especially true if you need to switch the aspect ratio from landscape (16×9; normal TV) to portrait (9×16; Stories, TikTok, Reels, etc.).

Yesterday, NVIDIA released new AI upscaling technology called RTX Video Super Resolution that can improve the quality of old web videos using consumer-grade gaming PCs that have an RTX 30- or 40-series card. It works in Chrome or Edge and can sharpen edges, reduce video problems, and increase resolution up to 4K. (AI upscaling has been around for a while, but it usually runs on relatively expensive, purpose-built systems or very high-end PCs.)
