You know Verizon as the nation’s fastest, most reliable 4G network and the largest, most reliable 3G network. Verizon offers the quadruple play, video, voice, data and wireless and is equally famous for its FiOS TV service. But here at the consumer electronics show, I want you to think about Verizon a little differently. TVs, tablets, smartphones… although size matters, a screen is a screen is a screen. So, when will WiwWiwWiw (What I want, When I want, Where I want) video viewing actually happen? Verizon has taken a nice first step into the future with FiOS TV for the iPad. It’s an app that lets FiOS customers watch video in their homes through their FiOS broadband connections. I am super excited by the possibilities. Verizon says its ultimate goal is to let customers have a WiwWiwWiw experience outside the home. It is collaborating with its content partners and Madison Avenue to make it happen. Verizon calls this “borderless viewing” But whatever you call it, this is big news and it’s on display all over the Verizon exhibit. You can see handsets and tablets that connect wirelessly to TV content, easy super-fast broadband connectivity and even the ability to make a phone call or two. Put this all together and you can get a very accurate picture of how consumers are going to consume media from this day forward and, perhaps equally as importantly, how businesses can benefit from the connectivity.
