According to the New York Times, the United States government is working to deploy secret communication channels that could aid political dissidents. The technology is reportedly being funded by a $2 million State Department grant that’s being used to create suitcase-sized Internet and mobile phone networks. In other news, the legality of video recording police officers is once again being tested, as a Boston man fights his arrest in the US Court of Appeals. It is legal as long as the video camera is in plain site, but this case involves the use of a cellphone. The law still has catching up to do with the advances in technology. And finally, the FBI is investing a cyber-attack on the International Monetary Fund that aimed to steal sensitive insider information. It is believed that the attack was carried out on behalf of a nation-state looking to compromise the organization.
