Hacked Calls, Affordable Price A hacker created a fake cell phone tower to intercept calls made from 2G GSM phones, record the calls and then forward them to their intended recipient. At a cost of only $1,500 anyone can own an eavesdropping cell phone antenna. If you’re worried, upgrade to a 3G phone, the security is much better and way harder to hack.

Blackberry Ban in the U.A.E The United Arab Emirates announced they would begin blocking email, messaging and web browsing on BlackBerry devices in October. The U.A.E. government credits its decision to security concerns, but with Saudi Arabia following suit it appears that these Gulf Nations may be trying to pressure RIM to release user data and allow the governments to monitor their BlackBerry users.

High-Tech Commute Wi-Fi is finally coming to New York City subways. Plans are in place to have six stations Wi-Fi enabled within the next two months, followed by 10-15 new stations added each month until all stations are equipped. Commuters will be able to use Wi-Fi devices on underground platforms and also have service on their mobile phones.

Are You Being Followed? In an unusual marketing promotion, Unilever’s Omo laundry detergent has inserted GPS tracking devices into 50 detergent boxes in Brazil. When a customer takes the box off the store shelf, the GPS device is activated and a representative from Omo will follow the customer, follow them to their home and present them with their prize, a pocket video camera.
