A man stuck in the rubble from the earthquake in Haiti used his iPhone to treat his wounds. Dan Wooley was filming a documentary for Compassion International in Haiti when the earthquake hit, leaving him stranded in an elevator with only his iPhone and a digital SLR camera. Fortunately for Wooley, technology came to his rescue, as an iPhone first-aid application taught him how to create both a bandage and tourniquet that stopped bleeding from his head. Wooley, who lost his glasses, also used the focusing light on his digital camera to examine his surroundings while waiting for rescuers.After an FCC investigation into its excessive early termination fee, Verizon slashed the price of the termination fee associated with some of its phones. The wireless provider removed ten models from the Advanced Device list, subject to fee’s double the price of other devices, however, all BlackBerry’s, Android and Palm phones are still subject to the $350 early termination fee.
A new report on AT&T’s wireless network says the company needs to spend approximately $5 billion in order to be on par with Verizon’s network. AT&T is so far behind both Verizon and Sprint’s networks that TownHall Investment Research downgraded its report on AT&T to “neutral” from “favorable.” The report also noted that despite being the second most popular network in the country AT&T spends less per subscriber than both Verizon and Sprint.
