Samsung is set to introduce the second Google Android based phone. Unlike Apple’s iPhone and Palm’s Pre, Samsung’s I7500 does not include multi-touch controls, a feature that many consider the lifeblood of next generation handheld devices. Like the G1, the Samsung I7500 will, most likely, only be available to T-Mobile customers in the US.
RapidShare will begin turning over user information to German officials looking to catch illegal file-sharers. The media hosting company, which is based in Germany, has been under pressure from record company’s, who are working under a portion of German copyright law that allows content owners to force ISP’s to provide info about users from specific IP addresses. RapidShare, which some believe is responsible for more than half of illegal direct downloads, could serve as precedent for other free sharing offerings.
MLB.com is reporting that subscriptions to MLBTV are up 45%. The MLBAM product is up to 400,000 premium subscribers and has served 127.2 million streams so far this season, up 136% year over year. In addition to its web offering, the MLBAM iPhone offering is the top selling sports application in the iTunes app store.
President Obama has named Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Microsoft executive Craig Mundie to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. The two technology powerhouse executive’s will advice the President on “national strategies to nurture and sustain a culture of scientific innovation.”
Conde Nast announced that it will shutter its Portfolio publication. Portfolio, which is approximately two years old, has lost nearly $100,000,000 since its launched. Conde Nast will shut down the print publication, as well as its web counterpart in the near future.
