Last night Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson was interviewed by Larry Kudlow. When Kudlow posed some of the big questions on every American’s mind, including “Why did you switch the strategy of the rescue plan?” Paulson sidestepped the question and never really answered it. He also ducked a big question about how “rescued” banks will use the government capital infusion.
eBay turned a profit and posted a 12% increase in revenue during the third quarter. While the online auctioneer took in a net income of $492.2 million, its traditional auction business fell sharply. Instead, eBay, which lowered its outlook for 2008, took in $2.12 billion in revenue mainly through its online payment system (PayPal), classified ads and other forms of digital advertising.
Hewlett-Packard will unveil a new touch screen laptop. The worldwide leader in the personal computer market said its new touch screen laptop would debut before the end of the year. H-P has been working with Palo Alto’s TouchSmart to develop touch screen computers.
The Wall Street Journal reviewed Google’s G1 Android phone and dubbed it “a worthy competitor” for the iPhone. The G1, which will retail for $179, features a removable battery and removable, expandable memory cards, neither of which the iPhone has. Mossberg also noted that it is :much easier to place a phone call on the G1 than on the iPhone”.
