IN BEV (INTB.BR) and ANHEUSER-BUSCH (NYSE: BUD) have agreed to a $52 billion merger. The deal will form the multi-national Anheuser-Busch InBev, which would’ve combined for sales of $36.4 billion in 2007. Anheuser-Busch InBev will reign over 300 brands, including Anheuser’s Budweiser and Bud Light and InBev’s Stella Artois and Beck’s.
APPLE’s (NASD: AAPL) 3G iPhone release on Friday had a few set backs. Excessive network activity for AT&T (NYSE: T) and APPLE resulted in a network overload, which caused a dead period where AT&T nor APPLE could not activate new iPhones. Regardless, Apple announced that it sold over 1 million 3G iPhones this weekend.
DISNEY (NYSE: DIS) is hoping that the 50th anniversary edition of “Sleeping Beauty” on Blu-ray will help spur interest in the new platform. Disney’s Blu-ray release of “Sleeping Beauty” will come complete with BD LIve, which connects Blue-ray DVD’s to the internet. Disney is hoping BD Live will be its killer Blu-ray app.
MICROSOFT (NASD: MSFT) and CARL ICAHN made another proposal to YAHOO (NASD: YHOO) Friday night. The latest offer had Microsoft buying Yahoo’s search business and Carl Icahn’s board running the company. The deal was rejected by Yahoo, whose Chairman Roy Bostock called it “ludicrous.”
FOX (NYSE: NEWS) will host the MLB ALL STAR GAME from Yankee Stadium this week, with ad sales ranging between $425,000 and $450,000 for a 30-second spot. While the mid summer classic’s ratings have fallen sharply since 2001, FOX is counting on the Yankee hosted game to be a ratings booster. 2007’s All Star Game drew 12.5 million viewers, the smallest number since 1970.
