APPLE will ship 3 million 3G iPhones in June, according to tech site Digitimes. The report states that Chinese manufacturer Foxconn will eventually produce 25 million units of the 3G iPhone. Rumors has it that the new 3G iPhone will come complete with video, GPS and even a keyboard.
BLOCKBUSTER is in talks to join the recently announced VIACOM, MGM and LION’S GATE premium channel. The deal would give Blockbuster digital rights to the new channel’s programming as a return for their investment. Most analysts wonder how such a deal would help either company.
In related news, CIRCUIT CITY’S largest shareholder endorsed BLOCKBUSTER’s recent bid for the consumer electronic retailer. HBK believes that BLOCKBUSTER could help finance the struggling retailer. HBK Investments owns roughly 9% of CIRCUIT CITY’s stock and is the third largest shareholder in BLOCKBUSTER.
The AUDIT BUREAU OF CIRCULATION announced that top American newspapers continued to decline in circulation, the exceptions being USA TODAY and the WALL STREET JOURNAL. While USA Today and the WSJ reported slight gains, the NEW YORK TIMES circulation was down almost 4%. This news comes on the heals of major bids to acquire NEWSDAY, as well as the dissolution of many mid-major presses, which have gone to strictly online distribution.
COX Enterprises is purchasing ADIFY, one of the few remaining independent online ad networks. Adify controls vertical ad networks for TIME WARNER, COMCAST, FORBES and MARTHA STEWART. Cox is the latest media conglomerate to snatch up an ad network, which are all the rave in 2008.
