The strike of over 45,000 unionized Verizon workers has already started to turn ugly. Verizon reported acts of sabotage including the destruction of 10 fiber optic lines and stolen electronics equipment, but hasn’t directly tied the acts to striking employees. Comcast recently introduced low-cost Internet connections for low-income families. The program called Internet Essentials will provide speeds similar to DSL and only costs $9.95 a month. AntiSec
The hacker group AntiSec has released 10GB of documents stolen from law enforcement agencies across the United States. Sensitive information was released, including Social Security Numbers and Sheriffs’ private emails. The data dump was in retaliation for recent arrests of high-profile hackers. Sanford Wallace was charged with 11 federal crimes for sending 27 million spam messages through Facebook’s network. He’s been spamming the Internet for over 15 years and his latest scheme compromised over 500,000 Facebook accounts. If you’ve seen a spam wall post, there’s a good chance Wallace was behind it. iPhone 4
A new report by the research firm IDC states the Apple has become the top smartphone maker worldwide in the second quarter. Apple overtook Nokia and shipped 20.3 million iPhones in the second quarter alone. Despite Google’s Android having more market reach, Apple is manufacturing iPhones at an unstoppable clip.
