Google Cloud Unveils AI Tools for Retail

Google Cloud has announced a series of generative AI technologies for the retail industry, aiming to enhance online shopping experiences and streamline retail operations.

The new retail-focused conversational commerce solution utilizes generative AI to enable retailers to quickly implement virtual agents. These agents can conduct detailed conversations with customers, offering personalized product suggestions based on specific preferences and criteria.

Google Cloud has also enhanced its Vertex AI Search for retail with a new LLM capability, allowing retailers to tailor their search functions more precisely to their product catalogs and customer search patterns, which improves product discoverability and relevance.

The customer service modernization solution integrates with existing CRM systems, deploying AI agents capable of handling various customer service tasks. This technology also facilitates the management of multiple customer engagement channels, including email, text, phone, and online chat. Additionally, the catalog and content enrichment solution automates the creation of product descriptions and other content, streamlining the process of bringing product catalogs online.

The trend is clear: we’re going to see all kinds of specialized AI systems and platforms serving specific sectors. Amazon debuted an AI tool for sellers last fall, and many retailers incorporated conversational AI systems into their platforms this past holiday season. NRF starts next week, and I’m sure we’re going to see dozens of retail-focused AI announcements.
