Recently released, AutoGPT is built on the GPT-4 architecture, enabling it to perform almost human-level tasks and function independently without user interference. Unlike ChatGPT, which is based on GPT-3.5 and accepts only textual inputs, AutoGPT benefits from the multimodal capabilities of GPT-4, allowing it to process both text and images as input.
AutoGPT is a free, open-source Python application available on GitHub. The tool employs a concept known as stacking to recursively call itself, using other models as tools or mediums to complete tasks. By combining the capabilities of GPT-3.5 and GPT-4, AutoGPT iterates on its own prompts to create full projects.
Is AutoGPT a stepping stone to artificial general intelligence (AGI)? That’s open for debate, but it is an interesting approach to increasing productivity – which we know is the key driver of economic growth.
