Music Streaming Royalties Set Through 2027

The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), the Nashville Songwriters Association International, and the Digital Media Association announced a settlement with streaming services for certain mechanical streaming rates in the U.S. for the years 2023-2027: 15.35%.

Everyone thought the NMPA would hold out for 20%, but clearly “one in the hand” was more important than a protracted fight for more. No other specifics were provided in the announcement, but you can be sure that the devil is in the details.

In the world of content, music licensing is about as complicated as it gets. There is no indication that it will ever become less so. For now, 15.35% sounds like a win – no pun intended.
