Jim Turner is Executive Vice President Advisory Services and Solutions at The Palmer Group. He has been curating CES VIP Tours with ShellyPalmer for more than a decade. An acknowledged expert in digital media, television and consumer electronics, having started several companies in these areas as well as having held senior executive positions with industry leading companies, he was previously the CRO and head of Market Development for Net2TV, a startup creating new OTT television content and distribution, working with great content brands to shape their online video into TV programming distributed over Connected TV’s and traditional MVPD platforms.
Before Net2TV, Jim was SVP, Product Strategy and Business Development for Canoe Ventures, LLC, the joint venture of the country’s six largest cable operators – created to deliver advanced television products across a national footprint including interactive television, advanced VOD, addressable advertising, and data/analytic products. While at Canoe, Jim also served as SVP, Product Management and SVP Distribution and Sales.
Prior to Canoe, Jim was Vice President, Product at Synacor, the leading white label supplier of web services and digital media to the cable and telco industries, with over 40 operators as clients. There, he was responsible for the development and implementation of product strategy and management across Synacor’s broad digital media product line including content portals, online advertising products, email, mobile portals, and web integration with DVR and VOD services. He also created and launched Synacor’s successful “TV Everywhere” initiative.
Prior to joining Synacor, Jim was Vice President, Digital Media at A+E Networks, where he led the development and management of the company’s Internet, Advanced Television, and other digital media properties across all brands including A&E, The History Channel, and The Biography Channel.
Jim began his career at CBS in the CBS Technology Center, and since then has held executive positions in a number of companies in the interactive and digital media world, including SVP, Product at Women.com, EVP/COO of Astronet.com and Executive Producer/General Manager of Digital Media Studios, DEC’s iTV content production facility where he led the creation of some of the first shopping, music, VOD, and other interactive television applications
Jim has an MBA in Marketing, and Masters and Bachelors degrees in Electrical Engineering. He is active in a number of industry organizations, and serves in several roles for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the Emmy Award organization) – NY Chapter Governor, Secretary of the NY Board of Governors as well as a former National Trustee. He is a GigaOM Analyst and holds two patents for the use of computers in music.
