OpenAI’s premium users now have access to GPT-4 Turbo (trained on data up until December 2023), which promises enhanced capabilities in writing, mathematics, logical reasoning, and coding. OpenAI says the model will provide more concise, conversational responses compared to its predecessors.

GPT-4 is still the GOAT, but competition is heating up. There are more than 150 AI models to choose from, each with its pros and cons. As for OpenAI, updates go beyond conversational models. The company recently launched GPT-4 Turbo with Vision in its API, introducing image understanding capabilities that expand the utility of the technology across various applications.

What does this mean to you? If you write a lot of “professional concise” documents, ChatGPT will do a better job of getting it close the first time. If you like bulleted answers and summaries, Anthropic’s Claude Opus 3 may be a better choice. If you need snark, X’s Grok is very entertaining; for touchy/feely writing, Inflection’s Pi may fill the bill. Wondering how to choose the right model for the right job? The simple answer: “trial and error.”
