REUTERS received a preliminary takeover approach from an unidentified entity.

YOUTUBE will begin sharing revenue with top-ranked videos today. The revenue will come from banner ads, and involve a select group of the most popular content creators. YouTube’s VP of Marketing said the payments are justified because “these guys are media entities in their own right.”

MICROSOFT
will purchase SCREENTONIC
, a European mobile ad firm. The acquisition will allow Microsoft to offer European mobile ad placement through adCenter. There are plans for expansion into the US.

GOOGLE is testing “Gadget Ads.” These are small, interactive advertising programs that can be embedded into web pages. They offer enhanced tracking of user engagement.

PR NEWSWIRE and UMBRIA have announced “MediaSense Blog Measurement.” The product will monitor blogs for mentions of client companies, and gauge the impact of these “online conversations.”
