YouTube has partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) and Crash Course to create Study Hall, an affordable onramp to earning college credit. Starting today, students can sign up for four “College Foundations” courses that start on March 7, 2023, and offer eligibility for transfer credit. Continue Reading →
We know that OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT) is working on a pricing plan, and some users are reporting that they’ve been granted access to a pro tier that costs $42 a month. Fans of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" know this number well. In the book, the answer to the "Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything" is 42, which makes me wonder if the final pricing will be announced on May 25. More importantly, I have been wondering if ChatGPT is, in fact, a pseudonym for Deep Thought. (Apologies to non-Douglas Adams fans.) Continue Reading →

GPT-4 is Still a Rumor

People should listen closely to Sam Altman when he speaks about AI. We are all amazed by the productivity increases enabled by GPT 3.5 and ChatGPT, but speculating about the capabilities of GPT4 is just dumb. We'll know when we know. Continue Reading →

I haven't written much about all the new video monitors that were on display at CES® 2023. This is mostly because they were all so incredibly good (thinner, brighter, bigger, cheaper) and more amazing than ever. That said, advances in manufacturing over the past few years have closed both the price and feature gap between the most popular technologies. So, for your viewing pleasure, here's a quick primer on current video monitor jargon along with some guidance to help you pick the best set for your needs. Continue Reading →

Thoughtful Debate Friday

Here's something to ponder and discuss. There's a case before the Supreme Court brought by the family of Nohemi Gonzalez, who was killed in the 2015 Islamic State terrorist attack in Paris. The plaintiffs claim that YouTube, a unit of Google, aided ISIS by recommending the terrorist group’s videos to users, and that because the videos recommended harmful content, the platform should not be protected.
