Google just launched Skills in Chrome, which converts your AI prompts into reusable one-click tools. Instead of retyping “make this recipe vegan” across multiple food sites, you save it as a Skill and run it instantly on any page. You can also share these custom workflows or grab pre-built ones from Google’s Skills library.
The feature works through Gemini in Chrome by typing a forward slash or clicking the plus button. Early users created Skills for calculating protein macros, generating product comparisons across multiple tabs, and scanning documents for key information. Each Skill runs on your current page plus any additional tabs you select.
I like this approach because it acknowledges how people actually use AI tools. Essentially, you are programming Chrome to repeat your most useful AI interactions without rebuilding the context each time. The productivity gain comes from eliminating repetitive prompt crafting, not from better AI responses. Most of us find a handful of prompts that work well and use them repeatedly. Skills formalizes that pattern and makes it shareable across your browsing sessions.
Unsurprisingly, skills in Chrome only work in Chrome with Gemini, which means your custom workflows become tied to Google’s ecosystem.
Every company needs a Claw strategy. Do you have one?
