Google Lens is getting better

You find yourself looking at an amazing image of a plaid shirt and wonder if you’ll ever find socks to match. Soon, Google will be able to do that search for you. A new update to Google Lens will let users ask Google to find stuff related to the image they’re looking at. This may not sound like a big deal… but it is. It’s the kind of innovation that’s going to make augmented reality a reality.

The update is powered by MUM (multitask unified model), which is said to be 1,000 times more powerful than BERT. Google is calling it “a new AI milestone for understanding information.” It clearly is. Now we’ll see how useful Google can make it.

Are you ready for image-based contextual search?
