Qualcomm Unveils Its Own Smartwatch: Toq

Qualcomm TocThe focus on Wednesday may be on Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, but none other than Qualcomm is entering the smartwatch market with a device it’s calling Toq. It’s a touchscreen smartwatch designed to be used with Android devices, and is serving as a showcase for Mirasol — Qualcomm’s low-energy display technology that’s struggled to find acceptance. According to Qualcomm, that same technology makes it much easier to read the Toq’s color display in direct sunlight, and gives the device superior battery life. Engadget reports that the Toq should last between three to five days on a charge — a huge leap over the single day Samsung is touting for the Gear. After downloading a Toq app from the Google Play Store, the watch links to smartphones running Android 4.0.3 or higher, and lets users accept calls, read texts messages and reminders, and control music playback.
