AereoAereo announced on Thursday that its controversial antenna and Internet-based television service will launch in Miami on September 2, Houston on September 16 and Dallas on September 23. The platform is already available to subscribers in New York City, Boston and Atlanta, with a roll-out in Chicago confirmed for September 13. The nature of the service – Aereo uses a mass number of tiny antennas to pick up a traditional TV broadcast signal and pipe it to the user over the Internet – means that the content available will vary depending on the subscriber’s location. Aereo plans to expand its offerings to over a dozen additional locations in the US before the year’s end.
