2012 will go down as the year that social media and technology fully took a hold of society. We recently saw the most connected Olympics ever – the Games dominated Twitter and mobile devices across the country for two weeks this summer – and now we’ll see the same craze in the upcoming Presidential Election. On Monday, YouTube announced that the site will stream the Presidential debates this month, and will have the full events as well as highlights available immediately after each of the four debates ends. We’ve already seen record numbers of tweets sent during September’s national conventions – Obama’s address prompted 52,756 tweets per minute just after it ended, which Twitter said was a new record. What kinds of numbers will we see when people are already on their computer while watching the event on YouTube? Only time will tell. The first debate is set to air this Wednesday, October 3 at 9pmET. Will you tune in to YouTube to watch?
