Are you really going to buy high-fashion clothing online? Couture dresses, designer suits?  Amazon thinks so.  The world’s most famous online retailer has signed up a whole bunch of high-end designers including Michael Kors, Vivienne Westwood, Catherine Malandrino, Jack Spade and Tracy Reese, and it’s looking for more.  Why now?  It’s about money of course.  Shipping a $5 dollar cable or selling a $1,500 designer dress costs Amazon about the same – so, according to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, “gross profit dollars per unit will be much higher on a fashion item.” So should you expect deep discounts on your favorite designer fashion on amazon?  Nope.  Mr. Bezos says amazon’s fashion biz is not about selling clothes at deep discounts, but at prices that will keep the designer brands happy.  Will that make you happy?
