A new report by the FCC studied the difference between advertised speeds and actual results from the nation’s top Internet providers. Verizon FiOS was the only provider to have consistent speeds beyond what was advertised, while Cablevision tested as poorly as 50% of what the company promises during peak hours. In other news, Senators Ron Wyden and Mark Udall recently stated that the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence is hiding ways that federal surveillance is being used to spy on citizens. Touted as the “Secret Patriot Act,” the government refused pleas by the Senators to release further details on the surveillance. And finally, Google is once again trying to stick its nose in the Daily Deal market by acquiring the online discount aggregator the Dealmap. The start-up has managed to amass over 2 million users and will provide Google a solid base to continue growing its hopeful Daily Deal Empire.
