A new survey claims that sites like Facebook and Twitter are drastically hurting work productivity. The report finds that 53% of employees waste at least an hour a day sending emails, answering texts and sending tweets. The average yearly cost of the lost productivity is $10, 375 per employee. In other news, Apple has had a hard time catching up to PC sales in the enterprise market, but a new report shows a surge in Mac sales. Shipments to very large business increased nearly 95% and sales to the government grew over 155%. It’s no longer a surprise to see a Mac in your workplace. And finally, new research at the University of Chicago finds that Google search trends are good indicators for tracking infectious disease. Search volume for the terms MRSA and staph from 2004-2008 follow nearly identical patterns to the rate of infection.
