Sony’s PlayStation Network outage could cost the companies millions to restore customer satisfaction. The company announced its service would come back online this week and is offering freebies to make up for the down time. Users will receive 30 free days of PlayStation Network Plus as well as free downloadable content. In other news, Apple and Google are set to testify at a Congressional hearing about location-based tracking concerns. Senator Al Franken who chairs the Senate privacy panel called for the hearing, stating that federal law has not kept up with technology. The hearing could be the first step in a series of privacy investigations. And finally, video rental kiosk Redbox will begin offering videogame rentals starting in June. The company has done fairly well against Netflix for physical DVD rentals and hopes that games will increase its value. For $2 a day, will you be renting videogames from Redbox?
