Twitter finally launched a new way to sort through its sea of tweets with interest-based search. You can now search within a category and Twitter will return relevant accounts based on their tweets. The “who to follow” page is now broken down by interest, displaying the top 60 accounts in each category. In other news, a federal grand jury is investigating smartphone apps that collect user information without notice. Pandora leaked news of the investigation after receiving a subpoena and believes it will be an industry-wide probe. The suspect apps violated a federal computer-fraud act by not authorizing the data collection. And finally, President Obama has already kicked off his re-election campaign and is again counting on social media to help spread the word. Obama’s last election successfully mobilized youth voters, with nearly 19 million people “liking” his Facebook page. The new social media campaign slogan is “Are you in?”
