LES MOONVES told Broadcasting & Cable that he is “proud” of Katie Couric and has no plans to take her out of the anchor chair. Despite CBS (NYSE: VIA.B) ranking a consistent third behind NBC and ABC in evening news, Moonves reiterated his satisfaction with Couric’s job. SIRIUS (NASD: SIRI) CEO Mel Karmazin disappointed stock holders when he announced that the merged satellite radio company only expects to gain 2 million new subscribers in 2009. The slow growth rate missed analysts predictions of 3.5 million new subs and caused SIRI stock to fall 10%, down to $1.14.

SAMSUNG announced that it is considering an acquisition of SANDISK (NASD: SNDK), which could adversely affect TOSHIBA, whose chip plants are co-financied by SanDisk. WIth competition looking to take over, the ties between SanDisk and Toshiba would inevitably erode and leave Toshiba without one of its biggest clients in its core business, memory chips.
