Metaverse Have-Nots

The headline says, “Apple Will Ship 1.5 Million AR/VR Headsets in 2023 at $2,000.” Wait. What? $2,000? Yep, we all read it right. Some analyst friends of mine are saying that this won’t be a consumer product per se, but instead a device aimed at developers and early adopters (albeit rich ones). Apple isn’t saying, but this approach makes the most sense. In no particular order, Apple needs to shrink the electronics, the battery, the optics, the screens, the weight of the unit, make it Apple-y, and on and on. There is so much to learn and so much more to do; this interim step will help them get there. My guess is that at $2,000 (or practically any unreasonable price), they will sell out before they become available.
