Your Turn to Regulate

Today, you are a regulator. Your job is to regulate social media. What is the first thing you would regulate? Your focus areas might be social media addiction, privacy, data governance, hate speech, misinformation — it’s your choice. You decide what you want to regulate first as well as the strategy for the regulation will follow. As with all things, the devil is in the details, but let’s not worry about the technology — just the philosophy and the strategy.

For example, let’s reduce troll bots. That would require everyone on a platform to be able to prove that they were human. The strategy would be to require proof of life (credit cards, utility bills, birth certificates, video chat with a live person who could verify that you and your credentials match, etc.). While the tactics required to execute this strategy would be difficult and expensive, that’s not your concern.

For this exercise, just tell me which of the “seven deadly sins of social” you wish to regulate. Please post your thoughts and comments to PGX, our private social network.
