Could a ‘smart lighter’ help you quit smoking? That’s what Kickstarter project Quitbit aims to find out. Quitbit keeps track of how many cigarettes you smoke and how long it’s been since your last one, and displays all that info on a built-in display on the side of the lighter. The goal is to help you understand your smoking habits to help you quit your addiction. Quitbit lets you track your smoking, set “custom reduction plans” and even limit how often the device will light, all to help you build new behaviors. The device connects to a companion app via Bluetooth, which is where you set your reduction targets, see how much money you’ve saved by cutting back and check in with friends who also have the device. The Kickstarter, which wraps up in the middle of June, is offering pre-orders of the device for $150. That price is a bit steep for something with no track record, but if you’re desperate to quit smoking, head over to Quitbit’s Kickstarter page today.
