If you’ve grown tired of the movie choices on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon, another major player has entered the field to give you even more instant viewing choices. Redbox Instant by Verizon launched its beta earlier this month, expanding the DVD-only brand that has proven to be the biggest thorn in Netflix’s side. Redbox Instant offers unlimited streaming plus four DVD credits for $8 per month, with the option to add Blu-ray access for a small surcharge. That’s the same price as Netflix and Hulu, but with the added bonus of those four DVD credits. The new service lets you watch movies on your browser, iOS and Android devices and TVs with SmartHub, but hasn’t made its way onto every platform like Netflix has – most notably, no set top boxes or video game consoles offer Redbox streaming yet. This past year has seen the popularity streaming video skyrocket and 2013 is shaping up to be even bigger for digital entertainment.
