Verizon to give Windows Phone a second chance later this year

Verizon Wireless will reportedly offer a new Nokia smartphone on the upcoming Windows Phone 8 platform later this year. Bloomberg reports that the nation’s largest carrier is making a move towards the operating system in an attempt “to lessen its dependence on Apple’s iPhone and devices running Google’s Android software.” Verizon released its first and only Windows Phone, the HTC Trophy, in May 2011 but the device failed to win over consumers. The company’s chief financial officer, Fran Shammo, previously revealed that the carrier was planning to make a big Windows Phone push ahead of the holiday season.
