While Cyber Monday started as a marketing ploy, it’s becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy for retailers. Online tracker comScore estimates that shoppers spent a record $1.2 billion this Monday. Many retailers have expanded online sales for the whole week, hoping to cash in on the hype. In other news, the UK government proposed a plan that would block cybercriminals from accessing the web. You could be banned for hacking or failing to comply with copyright infringement notices. Cyber-tagging technology would alert the authorities when a banned user breaks his sentence. And finally, Toyota unveiled a glimpse into the future of automobiles at a preview for the Tokyo auto show. Part car, part computer, the Fun-Vii is being called a smartphone on four wheels. Toyota said the car’s touchscreen doors and computerized interior are examples of what to expect years down the road.
