A new report by the research firm IDC states the Apple has become the top smartphone maker worldwide in the second quarter. Apple overtook Nokia and shipped 20.3 million iPhones in the second quarter alone. Despite Google’s Android having more market reach, Apple is manufacturing iPhones at an unstoppable clip. In other news, the White House recently named former Microsoft executive, Steven VanRoekel, as its new Chief of Information Technology. The government’s IT is years behind the private sector despite spending more than any individual company. Hopefully VanRoekel can advance the work of his predecessor and move the government into the 21st century. And finally, a recent study by the Visa-owned PlaySpan reveals that more gamers are spending real money on virtual items. 57% of the gamers surveyed purchase at least one item a month. And what virtual item is being purchased the most with real currency? Virtual currency.
