Amazon recently launched a competitor to the Mac App Store and now offers downloads of Mac-specific software. Amazon has slightly lower prices on programs and even offers Microsoft Office, while the Mac App Store does not. The store currently offers around 250 titles. In other news, Chinese prisoners are being forced to play videogames for 12-hour shifts to make money off in-game goods. A lucrative industry has formed around people purchasing in-game items like gold for actual money, and labor camps are profiting off of it. Games like World of Warcraft have millions of gamers fueling this underground economy. And finally, the quest for clean energy is being threatened by a terribly low global recycling rate. According to a study backed by the U.N., less than a third of metals have a recycling rate over 50%. The majority of materials we are using to produce green technology are being wasted.
