Google introduced a new social search service called “plus one” that lets users recommend search results within their social network. The service won’t change Google’s normal results; instead your friends’ suggestions will be highlighted in the list. Plus one is Google’s response to Facebook’s Like feature and will roll out even more sharing options soon. In other news, a recent survey shows that over 70% of data centers are moving towards some form of cloud computing. Serving data in the cloud helps prevent massive server failures by decentralizing the information. Improved web applications are making the transition an easy one. And finally, Intuit is using Apple’s App Store model to strengthen its core business. The company opened its own app store that provides downloadable software and digital tools for small businesses. Familiar programs like Quicken are available with a slew of other apps that will all integrate with one another.
