Apple has a launched a new service that will allow publishers to sell subscription based media through the App Store. While the service is supposed to help Apple expand its reach into the media market, many companies are having disputes over the store’s terms.  In other news, the concern for securing people’s rights to an open Internet found the spotlight in wake of the recent Middle Eastern protests. The U.S. State Department is currently working to teach citizens of other countries how to set up secure email accounts and avoid being monitored online. And finally, according to a recent report, consumers are being taxed more than ever for wireless phone service. While the average tax on goods is 7.4%, consumers are paying over a 16% tax for wireless service. The high cost is attributed to duplicated surcharges and a massive increase in Federal taxes for the Universal Service Fund.
