Alibaba Facing Anti-Monopoly Probe by Chinese Government

According to Alibaba’s website, “Recently, the State Administration of Market Supervision, based on reports, filed investigations into Alibaba Group Holdings Co., Ltd. for suspected monopolistic conduct such as ‘choosing one over the other’.”

There are many interesting things about the Chinese government investigating “suspected monopolistic conduct.” What it tells me is that no matter the political system, big tech scares big government.

As our elected officials go after big tech here in the U.S., we should stop to consider what the end goal is. What do we fear? It’s not their monopolistic conduct. That’s the nature of online businesses: after a shake out, one technology company wins. It’s the data! How will these antitrust cases solve for that?
