Spotify is Reportedly Adding a Video Service

SAI reports that Spotify plans to expand beyond its on-demand streaming music service into the wild world of streaming video. According to unnamed sources, Spotify wants to take on VOD services with exclusive content, which would put the company in direct competition with companies like Netflix, Amazon, and even, if you’re willing to stretch you imagination, with HBO. Spotify has already tread the ground of original content on the music side of things with exclusive live performances and audio interviews with artists. The actual nature of the streaming video service that Spotify is supposedly developing isn’t quite known. “Exclusive video” doesn’t always mean that the company is making The Soparanos or or House of Cards —this could just as easily be an expansion the original content that Spotify already produces.
